“The YANMAR WOODEN BOAT SHOP – WOODEN BOAT FESTIVAL OF GEELONG is excited to announce a huge Keynote speaker for the 2016 Wooden Boat Festival which will be held at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club – March 12-14, 2016.
Tim Jarvis AM (Member of the Order of Australia) is an environmental scientist, author, adventurer, and public speaker with Masters Degrees in environmental science and environmental law. He is committed to finding pragmatic solutions to major environmental issues related to climate change and biodiversity loss. He is an experienced leader across disciplines and uses his public speaking engagements, films, and books about his expeditions and work to promote progressive thinking in these areas. Tim is leader of 25zero and WWF-Australia’s Global Ambassador.
Tim’s most recent expedition, the Shackleton Epic, was successfully completed in February 2013. It was the first authentic retracing of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton’s “double” - sailing a replica James Caird life boat 1500 kilometres across the Southern Ocean from Elephant Island, Antarctica, to South Georgia before climbing over its mountainous interior using the same rudimentary equipment, period clothing, and technology as Shackleton. Regarded by many as the greatest survival journey of all time, this is the first time since Shackleton that anybody has been able to authentically recreate it. Tim’s other expeditions include journeys to the South and North Poles, across Australia’s largest desert, the Great Victoria Desert and in retracing the polar journey of Sir Douglas Mawson using 100 year old gear and equipment and starvation rations as Mawson did in 1913.
